Stairway Foundation has teamed up with the Copenhagen Film Company and Fuglsanggårdsskolen in Virum, Denmark, to create a documentary film project titled “Does the Help Help?” This initiative aims to educate and inspire young people about Danish development aid while showcasing how support from Danish communities enhances Stairway’s programs and services. A central feature of the project is encouraging youth to produce informative films that spark discussions between young people in the Global North and the Global South.
Film Launch and Educational Content
After seven months of editing, the Stairway Boys’ films—highlighting Stairway’s programs and services—have launched in Denmark as part of the popular Christmas calendar series, “Julekalender, which consists of 24 episodes. This release coincides perfectly with the holiday season, making it an ideal time for engagement.
Focus on Development Cooperation
The “Does the Help Help?” project offers valuable insights into Danish Development Cooperation. It highlights various initiatives to promote global sustainable development and empowers audiences to recognize their role in creating positive change in our interconnected world. Importantly, the films stress that everyone in Denmark and recipient countries share responsibility in addressing global challenges.
Educational Resources and Accessibility
This initiative provides films, educational resources, and accompanying teaching materials, all freely accessible on Gyldendal Undervisning’s digital platform. While designed primarily for secondary school students, these films will also be available to a broader audience on DK4 throughout the year, reaching diverse viewers.
Collaboration and Impact
This project results from the collaboration between the Stairway Foundation, Stairway Danmark, Gyldendal, and 9th-grade students and their social studies teacher from Fuglsanggårdsskolen in Virum. Together, this partnership marks a significant step towards enhancing awareness and understanding of global issues among young people, fostering a greater sense of global citizenship.
