Since 1993, Roedkilde Gymnasium, has been an inspiring example of how more privileged youth can actively support and empower underprivileged young people globally. For over three decades, students at Roedkilde have made significant contributions to support Stairway’s work. Their efforts are even more than their impressive financial contributions—they are acts of hope and solidarity that inspire other students worldwide. Roedkilde was the kernel that inspired us to establish our Youth for Change Program, which has spread over five continents to this day.
In 2017, Skanderborg Gymnasium joined forces with Roedkilde to further prove how education and advocacy can work hand in hand to create lasting change on both the giving and the receiving end. The students from both schools have been actively involved in the cause, organizing events, charity drives, and creative campaigns to raise awareness and financial support. Through their commitment, they contribute toward a range of Stairway’s child-centered initiatives, including education, medical assistance, advocacy campaigns, and direct support to survivors of child exploitation.
Engaging young people to reach out to understand and help other less privileged young people is an initiative that extends way beyond the Danish borders. Since 1999, schools from the Philippines, Singapore, Hong Kong, India, Egypt, Korea, USA, and Australia have been part of Stairway’s Youth for Change Program. Most of them join camps at Stairway, where their interaction with the Stairway kids and Indigenous kids from the local villages inspires breaking down stereotypes and prejudices while building bridges of understanding and solidarity.
Many students from schools around the globe have established their local Stairway Clubs to support our programs. When young people unite for a cause, the possibilities for positive impact are boundless. As Danish students continue to champion the rights and well-being of vulnerable children, their efforts serve as a reminder that compassion knows no boundaries, and together, we can all contribute to building a more just and equitable world.
