Reunited

Forced to run away from the loving home of his adoptive parents at the tender age of six by a malicious housemaid who was stealing from them, young Genmer managed to survive in the streets until he was rescued by social workers.  After nearly two years in a rehabilitation center in Manila and then entering Stairway’s program, Genmer was reunited with his biological mother.

 
Nepal’s Human Rights Officers visit Stairway

Concluding an eight-day study tour to government and non-government human rights organizations in the Philippines, twenty (20) officers from the Nepal Human Rights Commission (NHRC) came to Puerto Galera to know about Stairway’s programs. The delegates also met Stairway’s resident kids and viewed Stairway’s animation trilogy on child sexual abuse and exploitation—“Daughter,” “A Good Boy” and “Red Leaves Falling.”

A Brand New Day for New Kids at Stairway

Stairway Foundation welcomes ten new kids for the residential program year 2009 to 2010
Beaming with smiles and eager expectations, ten kids from the streets and detention centers, whose ages range from 11 to 14 years old, graced the Stairway Foundation campus on the 12th of June 2009. To follow a residential program of one year, the kids will participate in various sessions on personality development, child rights, reading and writing, mathematics, visual arts, music, theater, team-building and recreational sports.

Stairway’s Third Animated Feature, Red Leaves Falling, A Story of Child Pornography and Child Sex Trafficking
Stairway Foundation completes its trilogy of short animation films on child sexual abuse and exploitation with its latest release, “Red leaves Falling, A Story of Child Pornography and Child Sex Trafficking.” The film tells the story of two young sisters who were victimized by a child sex trafficking syndicate. Imprisoned in a brothel along with other trafficked children, they were forced into prostitution and used in online child pornography.

The first ever Deaf Camp on the theme “Every Human Has Rights” finally came into fruition after months of coordination and preparation between the Stairway Foundation and volunteer Deaf teachers and Interpreters. The Deaf Camp gathered together Deaf and Hearing youth at the Stairway learning center in Puerto Galera, Mindoro Occidental, Philippines, from 12th to 14th of May 2009.

On April 27th Love 146 opened their Round Home for Girls.  This home is a place for the restoration of love and hope for young women recovering from sexual abuse and sexual exploitation.  After months of construction, the dream has finally come true.    Congratulations!

Pulitzer prize winning photographer, Carolyn Cole, will hold her exhibition, "Into the Light, Sexually Exploited Children on the Path to Restoration," for a one night show on November 20th at the Helen Mills Event Space in New York City.

Carolyn Cole is a multi-award winning photographer from the United States. She visited Stairway on her tour of South East Asia where she has been photographing children in hopeful situations. Carol plans to exhibit her "images of hope" in Washington, DC and New York.
The project is an initiative of Love 146 (formerly Justice for Children International). It is being sponsored by the Swiss watch maker Baume and Mercier.
